Sarah Swafford is the founder of Emotional Virtue Ministries. She speaks to people of all ages on a variety of topics such as: Emotional Virtue, Dating and Relationships, Modesty of Intentions, and Interior Confidence. She is a graduate of Benedictine College and has been involved in ministry for over ten years. For three of those years, Sarah worked as a Residence Hall Director at Benedictine College, taking care of a dorm with 142 freshmen women. That amazing experience gave her a front row seat into the hearts of women and men transitioning from high school to college, giving her a deeper look into some of the struggles facing teens and young adults today.
Sarah shares her message at school assemblies, retreats, rallies, and conferences across the country and is the author of Emotional Virtue: A Guide to Drama-Free Relationships. She has appeared on EWTN’s Life on the Rock, EWTN Live, is co-host of the show, “At the Heart of Relationships,” and has been featured in the National Catholic Register. She is a contributor to Chosen, Ascension Press’ confirmation program and YDisciple’s True Beauty; she has also contributed videos for Women Made New. Sarah is a proud team member of Chastity Project and speaks at Steubenville Youth Conferences around the United States and in Canada.
Sarah also works on Special Projects for Catholic Identity at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, where she resides with her wonderful husband, Dr. Andrew Swafford, and their children: Thomas, Fulton, Cate, and Kolbe. “Emotional Virtue for a Drama-Free Life” (co-ed or women only)
Men and women today are faced with a constant assault on their emotions. Whether from the media or the environment around them, dating relationships are especially under attack. Sarah targets this battle within by setting forth a vision for virtue in the twenty-first century, one that focuses on beginning with the end in mind, building what will last, and staying off the “Emotocoaster.”
“The Gentleman’s Guide” (men only)
Every man wants to know the secret to a woman’s heart, and all too often they are surprised when they catch a glimpse. As we all know, men face the challenge of harnessing their passions and emotions in a way unique only to them. Sarah takes an in-depth look at the differences between men and women, the man’s role in a relationship, and the honest truth about what women really want.
“Don’t Shoot the Messenger” (women only)
Through countless conversations and interviews with young men, Sarah has asked the tough questions and heard their answers. In this talk, Sarah’s “Interview with the Guys” comes to life as she takes a hard look at how women can help or hurt the men in their lives with their actions, words, and wardrobe. With what Sarah calls the “Modesty of Intentions,” she takes on the question, “What are women really trying to ‘say’?” Just remember, please, don’t shoot the messenger!
“Perfectionism & Competition” (women only)
In a world of “perfectionistic, people-pleasers,” Sarah brings to light the inner struggle of many women today—interior confidence. With the perspective of virtue, Sarah devises a game plan to conquer that inner voice telling women, “You’re not enough.” With cliques, bullies, and mean girls, this world can be downright ugly. Sarah addresses the issues women quietly fight, such as body image, self-worth, and female friendships. No more masks, walls, or facades… you’re more than enough!
“Looking From the Outside In” (adults only)
As a parent, teacher, coach, priest, religious, or anyone close to a young woman or man transitioning through stages of life, it can be hard to watch your loved ones go through this challenging time. Is there a game plan for these years? How can someone help and not just stand by? In this talk, Sarah offers an understanding of Emotional Virtue, a map for navigating relationships, and a closer look at how to build up interior confidence. Being that person your loved one turns to—and does not run from—starts now.
